Norma Davenport, board president of the Rogue Theatre, joins the studio.
Norma Davenport, a local arts patron, took home the Tucson Pima Arts Council 2011 Lumie Award for Art Patron. As board president of the Rogue Theatre, Davenport has supported artists and their creativity.
For Davenport, it's nothing special to be a patron.
"It doesn't have to involve lots of work, you are a patron if you buy a ticket to the theatre," Davenport says.
While buying a ticket to the theatre may not seem like a grand gesture, Davenport notes that ticket sales make up 50 percent of the theatre's profit.
Davenport, who says she was humbled and surprised by the winning of the Lumie, hopes that the award will double in informing the community on the importance of being an art patron and how simple it can be.
"I think it should show other people you don't have to be a rich and important person to be a patron of the arts," she says.
