Jim Glock, director of the Tucson Department of Transportation, was recognized for his public arts advocacy at the annual Lumie awards.
The Tucson Pima Arts Council recently recognized 10 people or organizations that contribute or support arts in the local community with the annual Lumie awards. Among them was a perhaps unlikely awardee: the director of the Tucson Department of Transportation.
Jim Glock was honored with a Special Recognition award for his consistent advocacy for public arts. Glock has been involved in many public arts works, including the tiled walls of downtown Tucson.
"What we found is when we can integrate the public art into the actual construction of the project, I think we get the greatest benefit," says Glock, who names the Diamondback Bridge as one such integrated projects.
Glock, who says he was honored by the award, plans to continue his work with local artists and organization to produce public art for the Tucson community.
