Election 2010 US Senate GOP Primary Forum

July 17, 2010

AZPM Presents an Election 2010 United States Senate Republican Primary Forum with John McCain, JD Hayworth, and Jim Deakin. The primary candidates discuss the issues as they seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. Bill Buckmaster moderates the event.

Jim Deakin is the political new comer in the race for US Senate. After serving in the Navy, Deakin moved into the private sector. After four years working for someone else, he struck out on his own founding a commercial fire safety company. Deakin is a Phoenix resident.

In 1994, J.D. Hayworth was elected to Congress where he served from 1995 to 2007 representing Arizona’s 5th Congressional district. Now after three years off, Hayworth is back in politics this time running for the US Senate as a Republican challenging John McCain. Hayworth is casting himself as the consistent conservative in the race. He has the backing of the Tea Party.

During his time in Congress, Hayworth was a member of the Ways and Means Committee, the first representative from Arizona to hold a seat on that panel. He left Congress after losing the 2006 race to current Congressman Harry Mitchell. The loss was a surprise to some because the 5th Congressional district was considered to be a Republican seat and Mitchell is a Democrat.

John McCain is currently Arizona’s senior Senator. He was first elected to the US Senate in 1987. Before that he served in the US House of Representatives between 1982 and 1986. McCain burst onto the national scene with a Presidential run in 2000. He lost the Republican nomination to eventual presidential winner George W. Bush. McCain ran again for the White House in 2008. He lost that race to Barack Obama. McCain ran his first presidential campaign as a bit of a Washington outsider, that idea lead to naming his campaign bus “The Straight Talk Express." In 2008, his running mate Sarah Palin, the then Governor of Alaska, branded the two as “mavericks." McCain has since distanced himself from the maverick moniker.

Senator McCain currently serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee; Committee on Energy and Natural Resources; Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Committee on Indian Affairs.

I am very impressed with Mr Deakins and I think he has it right. McCain & Hayworth have been there, done that and it is NOT working. Time for new blood. Go Jim Deakins.

Thank you very much for having this Republican debate with McCain, Hayworth and Deakins. Very informative.

Very interesting debate. I have come to the conclusion, after hearing the debate, that John McCain and J.D. Hayworth are both politicians. Jim Deakin would be a breath of fresh air, he had an excellent command of the important issues. He was ingnored by his competition and I trust he will not be ignored by the people of Arizona. Good job Jim.

McCain needs to retire NOW. He supports amnesty for illegal aliens, whatever he is calling it now (regularization). He's not done a thing to protect Arizona as Senator when he should have been screaming to Washington about illegal immigration. He's still pimping for the "hispanic vote", just like Obama and Bush. Most of the bums in Washington are for themselves, not Americans.

Great job Jim! Keep at it. Thes guys both do a really good job at telling us why we should vote for neither one of them The choice is clear. Jim Deakin for U. S. Senate!

I watched both debates. Jim Deakin was nervous in the first one and brilliant in the second. But he was real in both. JD Hayworth feels like a slimey car salesman and John McCain sounds like Washington. Jim, I'll see you at the Ice Cream Social on Saturday.

I was impressed with this debate! I am very proud of Mr. Deakin for stepping up, as a citizen candidate, and trying to make a difference. Taking on two career politician is ambitious, and necessary. I think Mr. Deakin showed he can most relate to the concerns the working middle class and businessmen who want to succeed in a free market without government interference and stifling taxation. I will cast my vote for Jim Deakin! Good luck!

The first debate was won by JD then Deakin and of course last McCain, the second JD and Deakin tied and McCain last again. The Issues are clear to all and hope all will make decision that brings us the change we need in DC and hopefully that will put McCain on Social Security as he wants to do with the illegals, think seriously about your vote. God Bless You All; Van the Radio Man

Well I have to say JD won this debate but Mr. Deakin has some good points too. I think many states will follow once they see what is happening with Arizona. I say its should show this nation the true colors of the Obama-mama machine taking our country down the tubes we all will be lucky to come through this nightmare. We all know john McCain is not true anyone that isn't blind can see that. We all have a chance to turn this around so get out there and do something vote put your money if you have any for the person that will get it done. Were is Mr.Smith goes to Washington ?????
