Democrat Jonathan Rothschild cruised to the November election picking up 97 percent of the vote, or 24,134 ballots. The Democrats had two write-in candidates, David Karr received 24 votes and Joseph Maher received 45.
The Republican Mayoral ticket featured only write-ins. Rick Grinnell moves onto the general election after receiving 5,773 votes. Political newcomer Daryl Peterson had 48 ballots cast with his name.
The Green Party also had a primary in the Mayoral race. Mary DeCamp won that race with 312 votes, which amounts to 70.27 percent. She beat long-time Green candidate Dave Croteau, who picked up 109 votes, or 24.55 percent of the vote.
In the Ward 1 Democratic primary, incumbent Regina Romero easily beat challenger Joe Flores. Romero picked up 3,990 votes to Flores’ 1,234 votes. Those totals translate to a 75.8 percent to 23.44 percent win for Romero. She now faces Green Party candidate Beryl Baker in the Ward 1 general election. Baker, who was a write-in, received 10 votes.
Turnout was 14.66 percent. The average turnout for a city primary election is about 12.5 percent.
