Southern Arizona is organizing to help earthquake victims in and around Mexico City. The Arizona-Mexico Commission has teamed up with Tucson Volunteers.
At a warehouse, off of 20th Street, there is a sense of urgency. Nick Castice with Arizona Fresh Foods. He has donated his warehouse to start collecting items needed for Mexico City Earthquake victims. The effort was launched by members of the Arizona-Mexico Commission.
“They are basically in survival mode right now and it’s important that we help as much as we can.”
Volunteers are asking for non-perishable canned goods, and things like toilet paper and diapers. Also feminine hygiene products like tampons and pads. Rescue workers are asking for flashlights and batteries as well. Mida Vasques is a volunteer.
“What are the things that you are not accepting – We are not accepting water – it is too heaving to transport. We are not accepting medicines and we are not accepting clothes.”
Items can be dropped off from 7am to 7pm at 628 East 20th street.
