When Lynn Mitts was attending the University of Arizona, she contemplated many different careers. But after a stint working with children, she decided to follow her passion and become a teacher.

Now, Lynn Mitts has been chosen as a 2012 New Science Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Science Teachers Association (ASTA).

Mitts works in the 8th grade science department at Marana Middle School, where she shares her knowledge and enthusiasm with about 150 students.

Despite the responsibility and long hours required to complete her mission, Mitts says the rewards--such as when she can see and record the progress in her students--are priceless.

The Arizona Science Teachers Association recognizes three teachers annually for this award, one each for the elementary, middle/junior high school, and high school levels.

Mitts was honored during an annual celebration in Phoenix in early December 2012.
