The Department of Homeland Security has announced it will fund the stationing of 300 National Guard troops on the US-Mexico border for another year.

Keeping the troops on the border, "sends a message both to the citizens of our country as well as those trying to come in that we really mean business," said Congressman Ron Barber. "We really intend to secure our border and we are going to put all available resources on the border to meet that goal.”

The National Guard troops stationed on the border play a support role for the U.S. Border Patrol, they are not actively arresting illegal border-crossers.
