Work on the Modern Street Car in central Tucson is being expedited, with utilities going in at various spots along the 4-mile
"Right now, we're actually on track, on schedule, to be completed with phase 1," says Jesse Gutierrez, coordinator of the project for the city.
"The final completion, including the testing, we're expecting to be done in the winter of 2013, where we'll have revenue service" he says. "We expect to have testing going on before that to prepare the vehicles for that revenue service."
Businesses along the rail route are receiving assistance from the city and the Regional Transportation Authority through the Main Street Business Assistance Program, says program manager Britton Domquast.
He says businesses are experiencing varying levels of success in coping with reduced traffic through their doors, and he calls on Tucsonans to support the businesses to help them through the current tough time.
