Two organizations playing roles in an ongoing boom in downtown development are set to host a “state of downtown” event in Tucson this week.

Downtown Now, as the event is called, has been billed as a local-level State of the Union.

Rio Nuevo and the Downtown Tucson Partnership aim to celebrate “collective accomplishments” in the redevelopment of the district, according to the event’s website. Those include the advent of the Tucson Roadrunners professional hockey team, Caterpillar’s move to Tucson and progress on building a hotel.

Speakers will include downtown leaders and developers. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and guests can win prizes.

Downtown Now takes place 5 p.m. Thursday at the Tucson Convention Center Ballroom.
