Trump Will Hold 'Unity' Rally in Phoenix Next Week

Campaign source originally said he would speak on immigration, but that was withdrawn.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will visit Phoenix Aug. 31 and will hold a "unity" rally at a downtown hotel, a campaign official said this week.

Originally, a campaign official said Trump would speak about immigration in Phoenix, but The Associated Press reported Thursday that the candidate's Arizona campaign director said that was because of a "staff error."

The candidate this week said he will propose a "fair but firm" approach to dealing with the estimated 11 million immigrants in the country illegally. That came after a weekend meeting with Latino leaders.

Until now, Trump has been consistent in saying he will deport those here illegally and build a wall. This week, he reiterated the pledge to build the wall but said he was considering a "softer" approach on immigrants here illegally.

His campaign began last year with Trump's pronouncement that Mexicans are "bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. And some, I assume, are good people."
