Take a Tour of Tucson Cuisine

Moveable feast: Downtown lunch-time walks now available

Downtown Tucson's restaurant scene has burgeoned with the slow reawakening of of the area, and now a local couple offers to take people on a tour.

Tucson Food Tours, founded by Bradner and Maria Lawrence, was designed to give locals and visitors to Tucson a little taste of downtown cuisine, literally.

"The tours last about four hours depending on pace, and we visit six to seven different restaurants in the downtown area, depending on the day," Bradner Lawrence says.

The downtown area boasts four dozen eateries, ranging from haute cuisine to bargain burgers, and most are available on one tour or another. The opening of new places to eat and ongoing business for longtime standbys have led downtown Tucson's redevelopment.

"When my wife and I travel, we tend to eat and drink our way through new cities, and I thought other people may want to do the same," Lawrence says.

The tours, which started in early September, can be scheduled through May, and provide enough food to suffice as a large lunch.
