Kayenta Marine Killed in Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Jonathan D. Davis, 34, killed in Helmand Province

The Department of Defense says a Marine from Kayenta on the Navajo Nation has been killed serving in Afghanistan.

Pentagon officials say Staff Sgt. Jonathan D. Davis, 34, died last Friday while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Details weren't announced Monday.

Davis was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 32nd Georgian Liaison Team, Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Gov. Jan Brewer ordered flags in the state lowered to half staff in Davis' honor.
