She says her motivation to start the organization stemmed from her experiences as a young woman of color, with few positive media portrayals of Latinas and a feeling of not being a part of the rich American experience.
“I care about that because my parents were migrants,” Rodriguez says. “The anti-immigrant movement is good at framing immigrants through the lens of criminality.”
Rodriguez was featured recently in the film Migration is Beautiful, which was produced by the multi-media arts and culture group “I Am Other.” The film focuses on her art and the role Rodriguez plays in the contentious immigration debate.
“I think art has the ability to inspire a dialogue around the politics,” says Rodriguez.
