President Barack Obama’s budget proposal for fiscal year 2015 includes the mothballing of the A-10 airplane.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel first made the proposal to retire the plane about two weeks ago.
U.S. Rep. Ron Barber, D-Tucson, is part of a bipartisan coalition trying to keep the A-10 in the air, as it is the main plane flown out of Tucson’s Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
The president’s budget also calls for retiring an unspecified number of C-130 cargo planes. Many of those are also based at Davis-Monthan.
