Obama Budget: Spend More on Border, Eliminate A-10

His spending package would add 2,000 border protection agents, switch A-10 dollars to other craft.

President Barack Obama's budget proposal includes money for 2,000 more agents for the Border Patrol and other border protection forces.

The $4 trillion package, which Republicans have called "dead on arrival," also includes a proposed $400 million for more technology and fencing along the border.

One aspect of the president's proposal of importance to Southern Arizona is defense spending, with retirement of the A-10 aircraft included and a switch of the money to other Air Force priorities.

The A-10 is the main plane stationed at Tucson's Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Politicians including U.S. Rep. Martha McSally and U.S. Sen. John McCain have vowed to protect the A-10
