AZ WEEK: Change Comes to Arizona's Municipalities

Host Lorraine Rivera checks in on Benson, Douglas, Yuma and Page.

Leaders of almost 100 Arizona towns and cities gathered in Tucson this week for their annual conference. Arizona Week Friday takes a look at issues in Benson, Douglas, Yuma and Page.

On the program:

  • A conversation with Ken Strobeck, executive director of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.

  • A recent residential development proposal could grow Benson up to 12 times its current size. Mayor Toney King and City Manager Bill Stephens discuss the town’s potential for expansion.

  • Douglas is a border down whose fiscal health depends on the economies of the U.S. and Mexico. City Manager Carlos De La Torre explains the town’s unique situation between the two countries.

  • Yuma City Administrator Greg Wilkinson tells why the town is more than a pit stop on the way to San Diego. It has a large military and agricultural influence in Arizona.

  • Page is most familiar to those traveling between the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff, but the Coconino County city’s reputation is broadening, City Councilman Levi Tappan says.
