McCain Websites Differ in Language About Immigration

Spanish-language site takes different approach from English counterpart.

Two websites in U.S. Sen. John McCain’s campaign for re-election reveal distinct takes on the subject of immigration.

The website for the senator’s Latino outreach program, Unidos con McCain, says he wants a pathway to citizenship for children brought to the U.S. illegally at a young age by their parents.

It also touts his membership of the bipartisan Gang of Eight, who tried to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill. The proposal passed the Senate but failed in the House.

His English-language website also talks about immigration but instead highlights border security and the need to solve the problem of unaccompanied minors at the border.

A statement from the McCain campaign said, "The new JohnMcCain.voto is a condensed version of the main English-language website and was never intended to be identical, since it focuses closely on policy issues commonly raised by Spanish-language and bilingual Arizonans, based on the campaign’s internal research. "

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick’s campaign again attacked McCain on Tuesday for his support of Donald Trump.

The Democrat’s campaign sent out a news release with links to a McCain interview where he says he could work with Trump on the issue of immigration. McCain went on to say he could work with any president.
