U.S. Rep. Martha McSally and Arizona’s two U.S. senators are set to introduce legislation this week designating a national memorial to victims of the Jan. 8, 2011 shooting in Tucson.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the shooting, in which six people died and and 13 others, including former representatives Gabrielle Giffords and Ron Barber, were wounded outside a Tucson grocery store.
The bill, according to a statement from McSally, would put the January 8th National Memorial under the purview of the National Park Service to “permanently enshrine” the spirit and memory of the victims.
McSally is partnering with Arizona’s U.S. senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, in introducing the legislation.
The bill is set to be introduced Friday, Jan. 6, the statement said, and will be followed by a press conference.
