The Southern Arizona chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) today launches a series of six public forums about mental health-related issues.
“The goal is to raise awareness about mental illness and all the different ways it impacts the community,” said NAMI director Clarke Romans.
The forums are free and open to the public. Each forum will focus on a single subject, and will feature several speakers who will address questions from the audience.
The first forum in the series, entitled “Everything You Wanted to Know About Mental Illness,” takes place Sept. 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the University of Arizona Medical Center’s DuVal auditorium, located at 1501 N. Campbell Avenue in Tucson.
NAMI will host additional forums every other week until November 16th. The current schedule includes:
• Mental Illness and Youth, Tues., Sept. 19
• Mental Illness and Geriatrics, Thurs., Oct. 5
• Mental Illness and Law Enforcement, Thurs., Oct. 19
• Mental Illness and Incarceration, Thurs., Nov. 2
• Psychopharmacology (The Role Of Medications) Thurs., Nov. 16
