“Santa’s Workshop” Readies for Business

As Black Friday approaches, many charities and social service agencies are asking for donations to help the needy. However, one organization has a slightly different request: used toys.

“Santa’s Workshop” has been around for 24 years, but this year it finally has its own location. While previously using various drop-off points to collect toys, the workshop this year will be stationed at the Foothills Mall, beginning Friday.

“What we look for in the toys we get...anything that can have new life,” says Erin Howell Recuparo, who organizes Santa’s Workshop. “If it’s still in its physical condition and you can still play with it and have a good time, we’ll clean it up, we’ll dust it.” If there’s enough time, volunteers will even add a little paint to scratched toys, she says.
