The Continental School District south of Tucson covers Green Valley and part of Sahuarita, a rapidly-growing area that has seen more than a 500% increase in enrollment in the district since the 1970s. Although additional children are still moving into the area, the district fears it will receive less money from the state next year.

The state's budget crisis resulted in cutbacks last year and the same is predicted for 2011. The district recently faced a major setback when a proposition for a budget override failed by just one vote.
