Police responded to reports of a shooting inside the Harshbarger Building on the University of Arizona's main campus Wednesday afternoon.

One person was shot and taken to a hospital.

The university canceled all in-person classes on the main campus for the rest of the day and campus police are asking all non-essential faculty, staff and students to leave campus or go to their residential hall. At 3:49 p.m., police were still looking for the suspect.

The suspect is believed to be 5'8 with dark complexion, around 35 years old, has short brown hair and is wearing a blue baseball cap and a dark backpack.

Chemical and Environmental Engineering Professor Roberto Guzman was in the building at the time of the shooting. He said that he heard multiple gun shots and saw empty gun shells when he went to check on his students.

"That's one of the things that he never expected," he said. "We expect that students suffer with exams, with homework and get stressed, but nothing of this level."

The building is located west of the 2nd Street Parking garage, northwest of the student union and east of Yuma Hall.

This is a developing story.
