Pima Community College's Aviation Department has been given a Boeing 727 by FedEx Express.

The cargo jet, a 727-200F model, is valued at $800,000 and will be used to train hundreds of students planning to go in to the aviation field.

"Some 50 schools have received donations similar to ours over the past 10 or 15 years," says Pima aviation manager Thomas Hinman. "Only a handful actually work on the planes. Most just park the airplane on a corner and use it for picture taking opportunities with their students. That is not the case with Pima College."

Recent aviation department graduate Ryan Miles says the plane is just one of the many benefits of being an aviation student.

"I'm not going to say its easy, because its not," says Miles. "You can't beat the price for what you get out of the program, and what you learn."
