- And, Benjamin Lorr is a writer who likes to understand what makes things tick. Five years before grocery store employees were classified as “essential workers”, Lorr was researching the inner workings of our country's most complex supply chain for his book The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket. The result is an eye-opening expose that follows the evolution of food shopping, from the creation of the first “supermarket”, to explaining how Trader Joe's re-invented the industry, with many fascinating stories along the way.
Benjamin Lorr's "The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket" was published in September, 2020 by Avery Books.
