The developers of Project Blue, a prospective data center in Pima County, are looking to close the deal for the 290-acre county-owned property near the Pima County Fairgrounds.
A memo from County Administrator Jan Lesher states that the deal must close on or before Christmas.
Humphrey’s Peak Properties, the prospective buyer of the property, had sent the County a notice on Monday, Nov. 10, to close the nearby shooting range ten days before the closing date.
The buyer is also opting to waive three closing conditions in order to move forward with the deal, including requirements that the land be annexed by the city of Tucson, zoning and the guarantee of necessary utilities to operate the facility, such as power, water and discharge services.
In June, the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved a Purchase-Sale Agreement to sell and rezone the property to Humphrey’s Peak and Beal Infrastructure for $20.8 million.
At that meeting, Beale representatives explicitly stated that if the annexation was not approved by Tucson Mayor and Council, project developers would not move forward with the project.
In August, the Tucson City Council voted unanimously to reject the project after weeks of public opposition towards the project over concerns about water and energy use.
Earlier this summer, Arizona Luminaria reported that the company behind the data center was Amazon Web Services.
