The recent cereal drive hosted by AZPM in support of Youth On Their Own has officially concluded, delivering an impressive collection of breakfast essentials to local students experiencing homelessness.
Donations of standard full-size cereal boxes, single-serve cereal packages, non-perishable breakfast items, and shelf-stable milk or dairy alternatives were accepted during AZPM community events from March 1 - April 11 and at the Paul & Alice Baker Center for Public Media (on the corner of 36th and Kino Pkwy).
Thanks to generous staff and community participation, the drive resulted in one of the largest combined donations made to YOTO in recent years. Items collected include:
- 202 boxes of various cereal
- 20 cartons of shelf-stable milk and non dairy alternatives
- 19 boxes of granola bars
- 7 boxes of instant oats
- 5 packages of granola
- 5 boxes of toaster pastries
AZPM launched the cereal drive last month to benefit Youth On Their Own, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the high school graduation and continued success of youth experiencing homelessness across Southern Arizona. All collected items went directly to Youth On Their Own, helping to sustain and support local students striving to complete their education despite challenging circumstances.
Breakfast remains one of the most requested and easily distributed food items for students on the go. Through simple, practical donations like cereal and milk, supporters helped provide reliable nutrition to youth balancing school and housing instability.
“For many students, consistent access to breakfast plays a critical role in maintaining focus in class and staying on track toward graduation,” said Brittany Smith, Youth On Their Own Associate Director of Development & Communications. “Youth On Their Own continues to work alongside community partners like AZPM to ensure these students have the essential resources they need to succeed.”
