Zoology professor, Dr. David Huxley (Cary Grant) of the Stuyvesant Museum of Natural History, gets the news that an intercostal clavicle bone has been found, the last bone needed for the brontosaurus skeleton he is constructing. Huxley has been working on the skeleton reconstruction project for four years. However, the museum still needs a $1 million endowment from wealthy dowager Mrs. Carleton Random to complete the project.
While making several attempts to meet with Mrs. Random’s lawyer to discuss the endowment, he gets mixed up with the zany heiress Susan Vance. She finds out he is a zoologist and asks him to help her with “Baby,” a tamed leopard her brother has shipped to her from Brazil. Huxley reluctantly agrees. Here, the non-stop, slapstick comedic pace of the movie takes off. The farce includes a run in with a truck of chickens, a dog and a missing brontosaurus fossil, a stolen car, a trip to jail and interaction with a dangerous circus leopard, mistaken for the tame “Baby.”
