Sierra Vista Police arrest former Cochise College student for “terroristic threats” to Cochise College staff

Sierra Vista Police arrested a former Cochise College student Friday for “terroristic threats” to Cochise College staff.

SVPD arrested 33-year-old Sierra Vista resident Charles B. Wise who has been charged with engaging in an act of terrorism, aggravated assault, interfering with an institution, and using an electronic device to threaten or intimidate.

According to a press release, on Wednesday, May 8, “Southeastern Arizona Communications (SEACOM) received a complaint of threats involving an email that was sent to Cochise College, which threatened several staff members and others at the college.”

The press release states, “The individual stated they would also harm others on the Sierra Vista campus,” and that detectives from SVPD’s “Special Operations Bureau identified an individual who had previously communicated with Cochise College staff members concerning financial aid and made threatening comments.”

Wise was booked into Cochise County Jail and was also arrested for an outstanding warrant relating to previous criminal damage according to the press release.

A spokesperson for Cochise College said in an email that the college is working with local law enforcement to provide additional security measures for graduation on May 17.

The investigation is ongoing, and SVPD asks anyone else with additional information to call (520) 452-7500.
