Flandrau Planetarium programs highlight a scary universe

Visitors to the University of Arizona’s Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium will be in for a scary experience this week. The campus landmark will present a series of Halloween-themed shows.

Spokesman Nick Letson explains one program will illustrate some of the more frightening environments in the known universe.

“So, we can explore thoughts like what would it be like to live on the hot fiery world of Venus, or even things like what if the Earth stopped spinning," he said. "Things that happen within planetary science that to us would be very scary obviously.”

Letson says that program, called Haunted Planets, will start at 3:30 Thursday afternoon. Another Halloween themed show, Spooky Tucson Sky, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday. It will highlight the fables created by the astronomers of ancient Greece.
