Hit-and-run suspect charged with manslaughter

celebration of life 1
The UA community remembered the four recently passed students at the Celebration of Life on Nov. 7, 2025 at the Bear Down Field. The students were all victims of hit-and-run accidents.

Suspect in the deadly hit-and-run Louis John Artal is facing three counts of manslaughter and one count of leaving the scene of a fatal injury accident.

Maricopa County Attorney’s Office Public Information Officer Erin Pellett said previous recommended charges had included three counts of second-degree murder.

As the investigation progresses, Pellett said the court can evaluate any new evidence and consider if additional charges are warranted.

Artal’s next court hearing is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 17.
