Tucson community members, including elected officials, gathered on a cloudy Thursday morning for a remembrance ceremony honoring the victims of the Jan. 8, 2011, mass shooting. Six people were killed that day and 13 others — including then-U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords — were injured. Opening and closing remarks were given by Pima County Supervisor Rex Scott. Former U.S. Representative Ron Barber and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero also addressed observers. While reflecting on the shooting, they commended the community for coming together in times of tragedy and looked to the future demanding more gun control across the country.
