This year's MLK Celebration commenced in Tucson at Reid Park, melodies from Butch Diggs' sax and meat on the grill wafting through the air. Despite the unwavering Southwest sun, many got on stage to dance, play music and speak to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy.
In addition to local governmental sponsors, the celebration was also supported by the Tucson branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Grace Temple Baptist Church and the Tucson Juneteenth Festival.
