The St. Francis Cooling Center offers some temporary relief for Tucson's homeless population from the summer's extreme weather.

Tucson opened five cooling centers around the city today to help people get out of the heat.

All are at city-owned public facilities close to SunTran bus routes. This year, the city is keeping them open through the end of September -- one month longer than previous years.

Cooling centers are open during the hottest hours of the day, from noon to four p.m.

They’re open seven days a week, including holidays. They are located at the Donna Liggins, Fred Archer, Freedom, Morris K. Udall and Randolph Neighborhood Centers.
