The Downtown Tucson Partnership is launching an after-hours event this summer sponsored by Pima County.
Known as the Downtown Tucson Experience, a select number of museums and restaurants will open after hours for a variety of family friendly activities and dining options.
Crystal Moore is the president of the Downtown Tucson Partnership which is a non-profit group that helps promote community and growth through events and services, which started in 1998.
“The intent is that we see, for summer months, a high level of engagement, people leaving their homes five or 10 miles away to be part of this effort in bringing our community together,” Moore said.
The Presidio Museum, Children’s Museum Tucson and the Tucson Museum of Art & Historic Block are participating in the experience from June to August.
Hilary Van Alsburg with the Children’s Museum Tucson said Friday night’s kick-off is the Bubble Bash.
“We've got giant bubbles in the courtyard. We've got foam cannons. We're bringing back the big body sized bubble that everyone loved from their childhood. There'll be bubbles all over the place,” Van Alsburg said.
Anne Breckenridge Barrett is the CEO of the Tucson Museum of Art. She said she’s excited to create unique experiences for residents.
“Collaboration is the key. And that kind of echoes the spirit of Tucson, the community of Tucson, and I think that's what makes us incredibly energized for this opportunity,” Breckenridge Barrett said.
The art museum’s first event Friday, Momentos, is a self-guided art tour with artist Lex Gjurasic.
At the Presidio Museum on June 26, blacksmithing demonstrations will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The series is called Fire and Ice.
Moore said that the partnership is planning a similar experience in the fall.
