Pima County addresses back to school measles concerns

The new school year is starting in districts across Pima County over the next two weeks. Health officials are advising parents to know their child’s immunization record as a nationwide measles outbreak continues to circulate.

Anissa Taylor with the Pima County Health Department says many families are wrapping up summer vacations during the back-to-school season.

“Nationally we still have measles still circulating, so if people are traveling it’s always good to be aware of your immunization history.' she said. "That’s why it is still important to make sure you are vaccinated."

Only one case of measles has been confirmed in Tucson. Pima County and state health officials say that person developed symptoms after returning to Arizona from international travel.

Residents can find vaccination clinics at pima.gov/measles.
