More than 120 Tucson restaurants will participate in the eighth annual Sonoran Restaurant Week.

Participating restaurants will offer prix-fixe meals at discounts of up to 20% off their regular prices.

The event kicked off Thursday with a tasting party at The Treasury 1929, a new downtown event space founded by chef Daniel Scordato.

Scordato said Restaurant Week can encourage people to try restaurants they may not otherwise visit.

“I think it's great to get people in the restaurants that might have said, ‘Hey, I wouldn't have come but now that there's a deal…,’” Scordato said. “It can get them to come later, and if they like it, then they’ll want to come back.”

The Treasury 1929 will not participate in the promotion because its kitchen is designed for private events. Scordato said he was still honored to host the tasting party.

Cindy Aguilar with Visit Tucson said food is an important part of Tucson’s identity.

“Sonoran Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to celebrate those restaurants and the flavors that make Tucson such a special dining destination,” Aguilar said.

Sonoran Restaurant Week starts today, Friday, Sept. 4, and runs through Sept. 13. A full list of participating restaurants can be found here.
