The University of Arizona announced that one of its leading cancer researchers has died, of an aggressive form of the cancer she was studying.
Rachna Shroff was 47\. She was associate director of clinical investigations at the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

for a conference five years ago, Shroff spoke of how gastrointestinal cancer research was finally catching up with other, better-known forms of the disease:
“I will admit that we had a little bit of, envy of the targeted therapy space in, say, lung cancer and breast cancer...but I think in the last decade or so, we have seen a dramatic improvement in terms of understanding the relevant targets for all of the different GI malignancies,” she told the 2021 Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium.
Earlier this year, after receiving her own terminal diagnosis, Shroff raised over one-point-three million dollars to endow an award supporting cancer research.
Dr. Shroff is survived by her husband Dr. Puneet Shroff, professor of medicine and associate director of the Banner Medical Group’s Allergy Clinic, and children Simran and Sachin. Her funeral is Friday.
