Pati Jinich explores the food - and stories - of the borderlands.

Featured on the May 4th, 2023 edition of ARIZONA SPOTLIGHT with host Mark McLemore:

  • Popular Mexican food chef, author and PBS television host Pati Jinich is working on a cross country border trip for her new PBS show, “La Frontera”. Jinich recently visited Tucson, and spoke to Tony Paniagua about topics including her European Jewish background in Mexico, the challenge she faced getting started on television, and what it takes to write a best-selling cookbook.

  • And, the first Spotlight of the month always brings with it a new tale from “Stories That Soar!”. This time, a kindergartner named Milo uses his big imagination to tell you a story called Don’t Go Swimming at 3 AM. It was produced by the Stories that Soar! creative team, and performed by 10-year old actor Corbin Balangna, who is part of the Youth Center Program at Literacy Connects. This Tucson non-profit sponsors a group of performers and musicians called “Stories That Soar!”. They help young writers realize the power and potential of bringing their stories to life, for the stage, video, and radio.

Aspiring student-age writers can submit their stories to The Magic Box Story Portal now!
