Tucson Youth Put National Parks in Focus
Featured on the December 20th, 2018 edition of ARIZONA SPOTLIGHT with host Mark McLemore:
- Visit the University of Arizona’s Center for Compassion Studies, the first of its kind in the southwest. Its mission is to research the impact of compassion on society, at a time when the Center's director says it may be needed more than ever.
- Meet Yoheved and Adolfo, two kids who are members of Parks in Focus, a unique program that takes youth out of the city to explore the great open spaces of Arizona, and teaches them to use photography to document the experience.
- Tony Perkins talks with Dee O'Hara, who in 1959 was a nurse doing very important work on the terrestrial side of the Apollo Space Program. Join PBS 6 on Wednesday, December 26th for NOVA: Apollo’s Daring Mission, with many members of the Apollo space program telling about the first mission to circumnavigate the Moon, 50 years ago this month
- Essayist Adiba Nelson returns, to tell about a journey she had to take for her health, and the ways it lead her to re-examine the signals our culture sends about motherhood. (Music by Q and DJ Benbi.)
- And, Emma Gibson asks some folks on the UA campus about their holiday traditions, old and new.
