April events that bring the Tucson community closer together
Featured on the April 3rd, 2025 edition of ARIZONA SPOTLIGHT with host Mark McLemore:
- Meet members of the Autism Society of Southern Arizona including Ben and Kate Elliott, the group’s director. They are gearing up for the “All In for Autism Dino Day and Walk” on Saturday, April 19th at Tucson Convention Center. It’s a community event that offers resources, support and celebration for anyone who participates.
- Climate change and sustainability are important concerns for many of our friends and neighbors in the desert. Find out about the resources available during Climate Community Day, happening next Tuesday, April 8 at Pima Community College.
- This weekend the 40th annual Tucson Folk Festival will feature more than 150 performances across six stages. Mark talks with singer and songwriter John Coinman, one of the Festival’s most popular returning artists, about how music brings together Tucsonans of all stripes. Also, John debuts a new song called "Orphan Train", co-written with Cathy Rivers.
- The Tucson non-profit Literacy Connects sponsors a group of performers and musicians called “Stories That Soar!”. They help young writers realize the power and potential of bringing their stories to life, for the stage, video, and radio. This month's "Stories That Soar!" gives three young friends a chance to try to crack each other up, in a story called “Famous Sayings with a First Grade Twist."
- Aspiring student-age writers can submit their stories to The Magic Box Story Portal now!
