A season of thanks and a celebration of public media

From award-winning local journalism to special holiday programming, there's much to celebrate this November—and much to be thankful for.

As the season of giving thanks approaches, we at AZPM are feeling especially grateful to you, our viewers and listeners, for your steadfast support. Thank you for continuing to invest in AZPM’s award-winning original local programs, trusted in-depth news and information, high-quality dramas, and exceptional educational content that serves Southern Arizona.

I’m delighted to announce that AZPM’s news team was recognized by the Arizona Press Club for its contributions to local journalism in 2025. AZPM received the third-place award for Arizona Community News Outlet of the Year, and Senior Reporter L.M. Boyd was recognized for her breaking news story “Arizona Attorney General’s Office Confirms Lawsuit Against House Speaker Johnson.” Two stories produced in partnership with Arizona Luminaria, “Mobile Homes: The Last Affordable Housing” and “Death Behind Bars” received first and second place prizes in the Video Storytelling category. See the full list of winners on Arizona Press Club’s awards page.

With a potentially contentious midterm election looming, AZPM is pulling out all the stops to bring you coverage and resources that will help you make informed decisions. Special live reports from the AZPM News team are scheduled throughout Election Day on television, radio and online at azpm.org, where the latest information will be available on demand on AZPM News Vote 2026. Local features include an hour-long special on the CD6 and CD7 races on PBS 6 at 5 p.m. On the national front, PBS 6 live national election coverage begins at 6 p.m. on PBS 6.

On Tuesday, November 10, a live-filmed theatrical “living documentary” will premiere on PBS 6 at 8 p.m. We Chose to Go to the Moon relates the story of America’s space race and the Apollo program using rare archival footage, historic flags that traveled to the Moon, and live performances of iconic music from the 1960s and 70s. Recorded live at Carnegie Hall, the documentary features a cast of Broadway stars as well as an introduction by filmmaker Ron Howard (Apollo 13, From the Earth to the Moon). The program airs on the eve of Veterans Day to honor the many Apollo astronauts and pioneers who served as military veterans.

On Monday, November 16, PBS 6 will premiere a new four-part series from executive producer Ken Burns that tells the consequential story of criminal justice from the colonial era to today. Airing for four consecutive evenings at 8 p.m. with encore presentations at 10 p.m., Crime and Punishment in America, examines the enduring tension between crime and punishment, vengeance and mercy, justice

and redemption. Crime and Punishment in America premieres at 8 p.m. Monday, November 16 through Thursday, November 19 on PBS 6.

We close the month on PBS 6 with special programming to kick off the holiday season, starting at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day with Paul Simon: The Quiet Celebration Concert.
