#Black - Exploring Identity with Photography
Featured on the February 21st, 2019 edition of ARIZONA SPOTLIGHT with host Mark McLemore:
- Opponents of a "Go Fund Me" campaign to privately raise money to build a wall on the U.S. / Mexico border say the campaign is misleading and full of half truths, as Nancy Montoya reports.
- Meet photographer Kennady Schneider, a recent University of Arizona gymnast who is exploring and representing the African-American experience in a series she calls "#Black." Schneider's photos are part of a gallery exhibition called Americana at Modified/Arts in downtown Phoenix until March 9th.
- Author Myriam Moscona tells Tony Paniagua about Tela de Sevoya, her award-winning book detailing one woman's journey from Mexico to Bulgaria in search of her family's Sephardic Jewish heritage. Moscona will visit Tucson next week as a guest of the Jewish History Museum and the University of Arizona Poetry Center.
- And, the latest production from Something Something Theatre is inspired by the true story of a woman who ran a gambling parlor in Santa Fe in the mid-1800s. Mark talks with director Alida Holguín Gunn and actor Amalia Clarice Mora about the magical realism of The Hall of Final Ruin, a play written by Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos. Performances are February 22nd through March 10 at the Temple of Music & Art's Cabaret Theatre, located at 330 S. Scott Avenue.
