The next few days could see heavy rainfall and strong winds across southeastern Arizona, from Tucson eastward. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from eleven a-m today (Thursday) through eight p-m Saturday evening.
Forecaster Kiera Malarky says that part of Arizona could see at least a half an inch of rain throughout the region.
“The main impacts that we are concerned about is the potential for flash flooding, rises in area washes, and running water in rivers which could lead to washes outside of their banks,” Malarky said on a weather service webinar.
The “worst case scenario” calls for up to three inches of rain in some areas between now and Saturday night. Officials warn drivers to stay out of washes, where just a few inches of fast-running water can be dangerous.
