Weather statistics confirmed a wetter than usual monsoon for Tucson.

Five southwestern U.S. cities received above normal rainfall during the monsoon. That’s according to the University of Arizona Institute for Resilience. It runs a contest in which weather-watchers try to predict the monsoon each year.

The numbers show Tucson received 5.76 inches of rain, which was slightly better than the 5.69 inches that normally falls in the city during the monsoon. Phoenix, Flagstaff, Albuquerque and El Paso also registered above normal precipitation. In Phoenix, residents received 2.46 inches of rain, while people in Flagstaff got 8.68 inches.

The contest uses federally-managed rain gauges installed at airports in all five cities to collect its measurements. A recap revealed the most unexpected rainfall happened in September, with every city except Tucson reporting significantly more rain than anticipated during the monsoon’s final month.
