There will be less greens on the go for Arizonans.
Salad and Go, the drive-thru chain known for its fast and healthy salad options, announced that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is closing down all 51 locations in Nevada and Arizona effective August 6.
Founded in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2013 by the husband-and-wife team Tony and Roushan Christofellis, the restaurant found fast success, opening locations throughout the southwest.
As of 2026, there were 156 Salad and Go locations across Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. But bankruptcy filings show that 75 locations in Oklahoma and Texas closed earlier this year.
The filings also say the parent company of coffee chain Dutch Bros. is in a purchasing agreement to take over the leases at Salad and Go locations in Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Oklahoma.
The Christofellis’ sold the company to a private equity firm in 2021.
In a statement, current Salad and Go CEO Mike Tattersfield cited the “weakened confidence” from consumers regarding the recent outbreak of the Cyclospora parasite as contributing to the company’s financial downturn.
(The restaurant has not been implicated in the outbreak).
“This is a hard day for everyone who built, worked and loved Salad and Go,” he said.
On August 5, cars packed the two-lane drive-thru at the restaurant’s Tucson Marketplace location on South Kino Parkway.
Some customers opted to get their last meal by foot. Marshon Allen, a Pima Community College student track athlete, walked up to put in his favorite order.
“I heard about it this morning and I was really hurt because they have my favorite salad -- the buffalo chicken salad. It’s really amazing. It just hurt me,” Allen said.
